Foreign languages: between importance and ignorance

Ignorance is bliss and knowledge is power! Which of the two should one choose? Which of the two should one give up in order to have the other?
The possibilities that we have, if given the chance of learning at least one foreign language are unlimited. Some children do not have the chance to benefit from such great opportunities, some struggle in order to have a better life and we, the ones that have all we need, do not take advantage of it? That is ignorance then. Let us not talk nonsense and give certain examples. How many children from even the most prosperous African countries know at least two foreign languages? They have other worries like hunger, incurable diseases, poverty, and the list can continue endlessly. The point that I want to and needs to be emphasised right now is that we ought to learn when the time is right, when we do not have other worries.
Earlier I asked which one should be chosen: ignorance or knowledge? Some may say that ignorance because by being ignorant one is blissful, or some may say knowledge because it means power. Honestly, it does not matter whether one chooses ignorance or knowledge because both are wrong in some way or another. When I think of ignorance only one quote comes to my mind: “Being ignorant is not so much a shame, as being unwilling to learn.” (Benjamin Franklin). Need I say more? How can ignorance be blissful? Human nature is made for continuous absorption of information, our brain is made for never to be at a standstill, it is like a forever hungry little animal, not hungry for food , but hungry for knowledge. As for knowledge, “Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world”. With this simple quote by Albert Einstein I believe that I have proved that not even knowledge is the supreme power. I do not deny its power, but it is just not enough, just like speaking a foreign language does not mean that one knows everything about its people, culture, traditions.
Furthermore, we are still lucky because nowadays English is still considered a foreign language, but for how long? Is it enough to know just one foreign language in order to say that we are speakers of multiple languages? Many times we may have thought that one language should suffice but what we really do not know is that less and less employees search for one foreign language speaker staff. So, where is the benefit of our spent hours of hard work?
Another thing that I would like to add is that society is changing with the speed of light sometimes. To my mind, knowing at least two foreign languages is essential. Do not think only about better working conditions. Foreign languages are not only about that. They offer us such a great range of opportunities that I do not even know where to start. Let us take for example the possibility of getting to know people better. We can read from thousands of books about anthropology but we are never going to find out all the truth. I personally once met a French person−previously I used to have some prejudices−which made it clear for me that they are not necessarily so “always in love” or that they do not really like when other people laugh of their obvious stress of the “r” letter. Would I have ever had this chance if I had not known French? And the examples can go on and on…
However, some people believe that by knowing at least one foreign language one is superior to the others. People, do not let yourselves be fooled by this ignorant point of view. If you think you know all and do not want to know more, that makes you more than ignorant and that is a shameful position . You may never know enough.
To conclude, foreign languages are more important than we might think and one should try to learn as many as possible. Thus you might” know more than you think you know, just as you know less than you want to know.” Oscar Wilde

European Youth Forum, Berlin 2011

O echipa formata din cinci elevi ai CNRV a fost selectata si a participat la forumul de tineret European Youth Forum de la Berlin organizat de People To People International, eveniment la care elevii nostri au reusit sa se califice in fiecare an. Anul acesta am fost reprezentati de Diana Lapusneanu (11F), Stefan Tataru (11G), Lucian Aghergheloaei (11A), Ivona Chili (10A) si Bianca Manolache (10B). Ei au fost insotiti de Vadim Toader,fost elev CNRV si actual student la Oxford. Diana a avut amabilitatea de a scrie cateva impresii pentru blogul nostru. Enjoy!

European Youth Forum a fost pentru mine o experienta cu totul noua si speciala.In primul rand pentru ca a culminat cu vizitarea unui oras plin de istorie (Berlin),iar in al doilea rand,pentru ca acolo am invatat lucruri care, cu siguranta imi vor folosi mai departe,in drumul vietii.Orice greutate am avut de infruntat acolo,am facut-o impreuna,ca o echipa sufland viata asupra oricarui lucru pe care il faceam.Incepand chiar de luni pana in dimineata zilei de duminica,am incercat sa intelegem impreuna(si chiar am reusit)cum functioneaza sloganul People To People: Peace Through Understanding.Cred ca fiecare dintre noi a plecat de acolo mai bogat,mai bun sau chiar mai intelegator sau respectuos cu cei ce apartin altor culturi.Involuntar sau poate intr-un mod placut sau amuzant am deschis cortina spre alte tari,spre modul de viata al celor de acolo formand astfel si prietenii durabile.

Seara interculturala si vizitarea Berlinului au fost printre activitatile noastre preferate,ambele presupunand aflarea unor lucruri noi,deosebite si in acelasi timp petrecerea timpului impreuna intr-un mod distractiv.In ultimele zile ale sederii noastre acolo,am pus bazele unei piese de teatru noi,25 de tineri radiind de bucurie si emotie la gandul ca totul va avea loc pe o scena,in fata unei audiente.Totul a fost asa cum am sperat: am lucrat impreuna,ne-am ajutat reciproc si piesa a fost un succes.Doar ca sfarsitul piese de teatru era si sfarsitul timpului petrecut acolo.Trecuse parca o clipa de cand ne cunosteam...Iar acum,realizand acest lucru,incercam stangaci sa vrajim orele ramase pentru ca ele sa para fara sfarsit.

Desi ultima seara in hostelul Wansee a fost perfecta,trecerea timpului a fost,ca de obicei,impotriva noastra si ne-am trezit in mijlocul holului tristi si descumpaniti.Ziua de duminica a fost intampinata cu emotie,lacrimi si promisiuni.Niciun quest sau quizz nu a fost mai greu ca despartirea noastra dar totul are un sfarsit..Iar in ceea ce priveste lacrimile;suntem oameni..sta in natura noastra sa ne atasam unii de altii.Am plecat..am lasat in urma noastra cele mai dragi amintiri ale acestei veri. La revedere European Youth Forum! La revedere Lars si Verena!Ajunsi in statia de tren din Roman, nici despartirea noastra, a romanilor nu a fost usoara.Acum ne amintim cu drag si de acea seara si ii multumim lui Vadim pentru sprijin si intelegere!El a fost exact asa cum ne-am fi dorit noi sa fie: s-a bucurat alaturi de noi si in acelasi timp ne-a motivat cand poate am avut nevoie. Eu una voi lua aceste momente si le voi pastra in mintea mea pentru totdeauna.

Concurs International de Poezie in Limba Franceza, Sorbona - Poesie en Liberte 2011

Concursul "Poésie en liberté 2011" a debutat la data de 3 ianuarie si se va inchide in data de 10 aprilie 2011, la miezul noptii ora locala, adica ora 1 dimineata in Romania. Acesta se adreseaza elevilor si studentilor care scriu poezii in limba franceza, varsta limita fiind de 25 de ani. Participantii sunt invitati sa consulte site-ul asociatiei www.poesie-en-liberte.com, unde pot sa trimita poeziile.

La inceputul lunii mai, Comitetul de Lectura va face o prima selectie a poeziilor primite. La sfarsitul lunii mai, un juriu compus din 11 persoane (8 liceeni si 3 studenti) va lua decizia finala. Acesta este dirijat de poetul Giovanni Dotoli.

Rezultatele concursului sunt anuntate pe site-ul asociatiei la mijlocul lunii iunie 2011. La inceputul lunii august, poeziile vor aparea publicate in brosura care poarta numele concursului.

Se pot organiza, de asemenea, si intalniri de informare in Romania, membrii asociatiei Poésie en Liberté fiind incantati sa vina sa intalneasca participantii. In cazul in care elevii participanti se vor clasa printre castigatori, acestia pot fi invitati la Paris (costurile aderente fiind suportate de catre asociatie).

Un an scolar in Italia - Bursa Interculturala

Ajunsa la a patra editie in Romania, Bursa Intercultura se adreseaza elevilor cu rezultate exceptionale, oferindu-le posibilitatea de a castiga o bursa de studii pentru 1 an de liceu (clasa a 10-a sau a 11-a), in Italia.

Grupul Intesa Sanpaolo si Intesa Sanpaolo Bank Romania ofera o bursa in valoare de 12.000 EUR, suma ce acopera toate cheltuielile necesare, inclusiv transportul si cazarea. La acest program pot participa elevii de la orice liceu din Romania, care in anul scolar curent sunt in clasa a 9-a sau a 10-a.

Bursa Intercultura ofera castigatorului posibilitatea de a petrece un an intr-o familie italiana, fiind complet intregrat in mediul familial si scolar. Astfel, va avea posibilitatea de a invata limba italiana, de a cunoaste obiceiurile unei noi comunitati, de a lega prietenii interesante, largindu-si prin aceasta experienta orizontul cultural si educational. Selectia candidatilor eligibili pentru Bursa Intercultura se va face in mod obiectiv, in Italia, de catre Fundatia Intercultura, co-organizatoare a acestui program.

Now that I`m trying to write a short retrospective , there’s a phrase that still chases my mind “ It was just meant to be “ … so amazing .
May the story begin… .It all started with four days in one of the most cosmopolite city in Europe , London .A place that keeps on surprising me even at my third encounter with its beauty .Every moment spent there was absolutely unique , one important aspect was probably that I had my best friends around me all the time .
To be honest after London kept me in a constant mood of amazement , I had the idea that nothing could surprise me more. Finally tears falling down during our flight to Bucharest proved me the total opposite because I was about to live one of the most extraordinary weeks of my life .
This exchange was a great opportunity to gather so many different personalities , from artists , that delighted our senses with beautiful song on piano or guitar until the organized and rigorous ones .I’m sure that this was the essence of the success in this experience because we all managed to fit in somehow and to share our best qualities with others . I’m quite sure that this group could participate for an award called “Unity itself “ . Everybody acted like we had known each other for ages . It was absolutely fantastic that we have so many things in common that in the essence we are preoccupied about the same things and that we all had fantastic goals to achieve .
Once again it was proven that distance doesn’t count and that when there is a will there MUST be a way to achieve it . Maybe this is how the PTPI sister chapters from Roman and Varna met again .
I really hope that I`ve left some smiles behind because when I think of Dunfield House , or the great friends that I had the chance to meet , an enormous smile lightens up my face .
In the end I want to believe that this exchange was only a trampoline for creating a new opportunity of seeing each other .

“Europe on Film” was the first youth exchange I have ever attended and, like any venture into the unknown, I didn’t know what to expect. My biggest fear was probably that we would be too different and not get along. Upon arrival though, my fear had vanished completely. All the teams were made up of enthusiastic young people, who all shared almost the same passions and vision about the future as we did. To help with the integration process even more, the leaders decided to split us up into more groups in which a maximum of two people of the same nationality were allowed. The workshops contained several team-building games which I enjoyed very much, interviewing local people such as teen-agers, citizens with an interesting life story and even the Mayor of Hereford, but also an art project in which we had to make a mural representing our country’s journey towards the European Union. As we all know, “all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy” so the host country planned fun activities for us such as swimming, a hike through the country-side and a trip to Barmouth, where we got to experience the Welsh seaside. In the end, we were all sad to be leaving, but, thanks to the magic of Facebook we will stay in touch and, of course, we will try to see each other again as soon as possible.

In aceasta vara CNRV a gazduit programul organizatiei People To People International - Language ambassador prin care profesorul american Mark Johnson a predat ore de limba engleza elevilor de la clasele II - VII din CNRV si unei grupe de cursanti adulti. Elementul de noutate de anul acesta a fost colaborarea cu Dl prof. Florin Moldovanu care a coordonat cursurile de informatica si multimedia si implicarea ca voluntari a elevilor de liceu. I again had a wonderful time working with the people in Roman. I was able to teach three sections again this year. I had one group of 7 and 8 year olds, one group of 12 and 13 year olds and one group of adults. I know that I had a wonderful time and I hope that all of the students did as well.
Of course the people of Roman were welcoming as always taking me into their hearts as well as into their homes. I have made such wonderful friends in my time in Romania.

Andra Calin, Andrei Agache,Alex Bombea, Vlad Ungureanu, Cristina Acsinte and teacher Sorina Danciu have just come back from the EYF Berlin : "Close Encounters of the Street Kind" - street theater performance.

AIMS

People to People International aims to foster international understanding through direct people-to-people contacts. PTPI’s European Youth Forum will enable participants to form lasting friendships with peers from different countries. Participants will enhance their intercultural skills in various interactive workshops. They also will have the opportunity to develop a street theater action and to perform it in Berlin.

PARTICIPANTS

The European Youth Forum brought together 25 participants from five different European countries: Romania,Greece,Ukraine,Macedonia and Bulgaria.From Roman Voda National College a team of four students were accepted following a European competition: Andra Calin, Andrei Agache, Alex Bombea and Vlad Ungureanu, students in the 11th A Grade and members of PTPI Roman Chapter, accompanied by the group leader Sorina Danciu - PTPI European Youth Coordinator. The 5th participant was Cristina Acsinte, student member from Bucharest. Participants represented their country of origin at the European Youth Forum as ambassadors of diversity and put up an exciting street theater performed in important squares in Berlin.

Echipa de Dezbateri Academice “Teen” a Clubului “Arts&Crafts” a fost inclusa in echipele care vor participa la programul “Tinerii Dezbat”.

Procesul de selecție a liceelor participante la a doua ediție a proiectului "Tinerii dezbat" s-a încheiat. S-au luat în calcul atât calitatea argumentării și a motivației implicării școlii/profesorului coordonator într-un program cu acest specific, căt și distribuția geografică și în alte localități decât reședințele de județe. Numărul de licee din fiecare județ a fost estimat inițial la 4, fiind în lista finală mai mic sau mai mare, în funcție de numărul de aplicații primite sau de locurile rămase libere de la județele situate în aceleași grupe.

"Tinerii dezbat" în Anul European pentru Combaterea Saraciei si Excluziunii sociale

Ministerul Educatiei, Cercetarii, Tineretului si Sportului împreuna cu Agentia de Dezvoltare Comunitara „Împreuna", Asociatia Româna de Dezbateri, Oratorie si Retorica, Policy Center for Roma and Minorities, Departamentul de Relatii Interetnice, Consiliul National pentru Combaterea Discriminarii, Roma Education Fund-Budapesta si Agentia Nationala pentru Egalitatea de sanse între femei si barbati invita tinerii liceeni într-o campanie de dezbateri si informare referitoare la minoritati si grupuri vulnerabile, în cadrul Anului European pentru Combaterea Saraciei si Excluziunii Sociale.

Scopul proiectului "Tinerii dezbat" îl constituie întelegerea informata a realitatilor sociale, dezbaterea argumentata si stimularea constientizarii modalitatilor în care diferentele sociale, etnice, economice, de sanatate sau gen pot constitui bariere în comunicarea cu celalalt si în definirea unei pozitii tolerante si deschise fata de membrii grupurilor minoritare. Acest demers educational va cuprinde în perioada martie-noiembrie 2010 o serie succesiva de traininguri în argumentare si dezbateri, sesiuni de mentorat (inclusiv online) si dezbateri în etape judetene/regionale/nationala.

Acordarea certificatelor European Language Label

O delegatie din CNRV formata din Suman Daniela - director, Danciu Sorina- coordonator proiect, elevii Cezara Suman si George Pal, membri ai Clubului Arts&Crafts- a participat la ceremonia de decernare a certificatelor European Language Label.

Reprezentanţa Comisiei Europene, Ministerul Educaţiei, Cercetării, Tineretului şi Sportului, împreună cu Agenţia Naţională pentru Programe Comunitare în domeniul Educaţiei şi Formării Profesionale au organizat ceremonia de acordare a Certificatul European Language Label pentru 13 proiecte inovatoare în domeniul predării şi învăţării limbilor străine.
“La baza construcţiei europene sta principiul unităţii în diversitate. Noi toţi suntem cetăţeni europeni, dar în acelaşi timp ne promovăm tradiţiile, facem totul să ne cunoaştem mai bine, să comunicăm mai bine. Astfel, învăţarea unei limbi străine reprezintă un mijloc important de a ne cunoaşte, dar nu este mai puţin adevărat că în acelaşi timp reprezintă şi un element de competitivitate”, a declarat, în timpul evenimentului, domnul Niculae Idu, Şeful Reprezentanţei Comisiei Europene în România.
În 2009, au fost primite 42 de candidaturi pentru European Language Label (cu circa 36% mai multe ca în anii trecuţi), din toate regiunile României şi depuse de către diverse instituţii, de la şcoli şi licee până la companii private.
Toate proiectele selectate au primit o diplomă semnată de Leonard Orban, fostul Comisar European pentru Multilingvism, precum şi de Daniel Funeriu, Ministrul Educaţiei, Cercetării, Tineretului şi Sportului. Instituţiile pot folosi Certificatul European Language Label şi sigla asociată în toate prezentările şi materialele referitoare la proiectul premiat.România participă la aceasta iniţiativă a Comisiei Europene pentru al optulea an. Obiectivul acestei iniţiative europene este de a stimula interesul pentru învăţarea limbilor străine, prin identificarea şi diseminarea de proiecte inovatoare la toate stadiile, de la grădiniţă la învăţământul pentru adulţi.

US Study Programs through American Corner Iasi

Wednesday, March 17, 2.30 pm we are waiting for you in the Festivity Hall for a meeting with the representatives of American Corner Iasi and Fulbright Commission Bucharest.

High school and college students in the wider Iasi region will have multiple opportunities to learn about the bene-fits of a US education and the admissions requirements through a number of educational events orchestrated by the American Corner in Iasi throughout March 16-18. In addition to the presentations and training programs that will be hosted by the American Corner, similar opportunities will be made available to the high school students in Roman. The high school community in Roman will be getting extensive support from both institutions involved in the program. The passion and professionalism of the American Corner Iasi are proving essential again to the suc-cess of this initiative.

În cursul acestui an, trei elevi şi un profesor de la Colegiul Naţional Roman-Vodă vor reprezenta România în cadrul manifestării pentru tineret organizate de CESE (Comitetul Economic si Social European), care se va desfăşura la Bruxelles între 15 şi 17 aprilie sub deviza „Europa ta, părerea ta”. Timp de câteva zile, elevii şi profesorul vor intra în pielea unor membri CESE şi vor dezbate teme legate de UE împreună cu alţi 150 de adolescenţi şi profesori provenind din întreaga Europă. Acest lucru reprezintă nu doar o veritabilă şansă pentru oraşul vostru de a-şi face vocea auzită la Bruxelles, ci şi o ocazie pentru elevi de a face schimb de informaţii şi de a purta un dialog real cu vicepreşedinta CESE, Irini Pari, şi cu alţi reprezentanţi ai UE.
Comitetul Economic şi Social European este un organism consultativ al UE. Cei 344 de membri ai săi provin din toate ţările UE şi sunt reprezentanţii a diferiţi actori din sectorul economic şi din cel social: angajatori, angajaţi, ONG-uri şi diverse alte organizaţii. În cadrul procesului decizional din Uniunea Europeană, rolul Comitetului Economic şi Social European este acela de a consilia celelalte instituţii europene (Comisia Europeană, Parlamentul European etc). Prin diversele organizaţii ale societăţii civile reprezentate de CESE, cetăţeanul european poate să îşi facă auzite opiniile şi să influenţeze deciziile luate la nivel european.

Arts&Crafts won the European Label 2009 !

European Label - Certificatul European pentru proiecte din domeniul predarii si invatarii limbilor straine - este o initiativa a Comisiei Europene care isi propune sa evidentieze si sa recompenseze cele mai inovatoare si creative proiecte din acest domeniu.

Our Arts and Crafts Club project started two years ago when the teachers of the English Language Department decided to join and set up this club in which to have several sections meant to meet the diverse interests of our students and the expertise of our colleagues as coordinators.
We did a survey and found out which the main interests of our students were and established the following sections: Drama(Teacher Laura Chirila and Chereji Monica), Photography (Teacher Claudiu Andone), Cinema (Teacher Roxana Prisecaru), Academic Debate(Teacher Sorina Danciu), Irish and Country Dance (Teacher Geta Sipoteanu ), European Projects ( teachers Sorina Danciu and Laura Sandu), German Language Section (teacher Manoliu Constanta) .
The Club sets up a program for each school year and at the beginning of each school year the coordinating teachers and the delegated students from each section decide if the program can continue based on the availability of human and financial resources. We have decided to continue our project starting with March 2010 preserving the same sections with the addition of the Journalism section (teachers Gabriela Romano and Sorina Danciu) and the Spanish section (teacher Oana Marza).
Each section has weekly meetings and at the end of each term or on various occasions members organize shows, presentations or exhibitions in the school or different places in town. The Drama section performed plays and sketches on Christmas Show, Halloween and St. Valentine’s Day, The photography section displayed a photo exhibition in the main hall of our college with the support of the Parents’ Association, The Cinema section contributed with short films at the Christmas Show, the Academic Debate organized several public debates and sent several students at regional and national debates hosted by ARDOR, The Irish and country dance section joined the Christmas shows and the European projects section established a cooperation with a local NGO, people To People Romania and set up a Young generation group whose members participated at the European Youth Forum, Berlin 2008, The Peace Camp in Jordan and were the promoters of a Youth in action project Ready, Steady Go for a Healthy Life with participants from five other European countries.
The Arts and Crafts Club enjoys a great popularity in our school which is a proof of its necessity and appeal to our students.

- Caseta de prezentare (in romana si engleza) a persoanei pe care o intervieveaza participantul, in care sa fie specificate:
- Numele persoanei intervievate sau doar initialele
(“Bunica” poate fi o persoana cu mare experienta de viata, din familie sau dinafara ei)

Active Youth Participation, Strasbourg

Recent colega voastra Cezara Suman s-a intors de la un seminar de formare pe tema participarii active a tinerilor in viata societatii, curs organizat de Directoratul pentru Tineret si Sport al Consiliului Europei din Strasbourg, Franta, la European Youth Center. Seminarul a avut ca scop intarirea statelor democratice europene prin dezvoltarea de competente a tinerilor participanti pentru o mai activa implicare in comunitatile locale, regionale, nationale si europene. Cezara a participat pentru obtinerea acestei burse la o competitie deschisa europeana ca eleva CNRV si membra a organizatiei PTPI Europe.

The Training Course on Active Youth Participation 2009 is a programme organized by the Directorate of Youth and Sport within the Council of Europe. It took place in Strasbourg, France at the European Youth Centre during 30 November- 9 December 2009 and it aims at promoting the building and strengthening of open and democratic European societies.

To begin with, Strasbourg is indeed the most beautiful city I've ever been to. You may say that all new visited cities seem beautiful for everyone. I've pinned a few places on the world map, but I've never seen such a pretty place. What makes it so special? The Christkindelmarkt- The Christmas Market in Strasbourg is by far one of the most spectacular in Europe. No wonder why it has been organized since 1570. As far as I could walk within it, it seemed to me like a city made of gingerbread because of its colorful Franco-German appearance, the historic city centre and the peaceful atmosphere. Though the weather in Strasbourg is not desirable, the city is definitely a place to be!

The training course was held at the European Youth Centre. There are only two such youth centres in Europe: one in Budapest and one in Strasbourg. The latter one, besides providing us accommodation and space for the courses, seemed interesting for me because the centre has been "internationally built". Many parts of this building are basically donations from governments of some member countries of the Council of Europe. I was very happy to find the Romanian corner at the reception!

There were held courses daily for 8 days. The courses were a very mind opening opportunity for me to explore, through non-formal methods, concepts like: active and passive participation, the European institutions and their roles, education of human rights, youth policy, social networking, intercultural dialogue, the trilateral cooperation between authorities, youth and NGOs, democracy. By discovering the meaning and the challenges of active youth participation it became quite easy for me to analyze the current reality of civil society from a new perspective. What I'm trying to say is that young people should be aware of the fact that they are not ignorant pawns in the system. Participation is the key to open democratic societies. There is no need to imagine the opposite, the history has already shown us. Before going to this course all I could think of, related to participation, was voting, standing for election and volunteering, but this concept is much deeper and wider than we think and it is essential for people to be aware of it. But thanks to the great trainers and experts that held the courses I've made a huge step in understanding it and my next plan is to put in practice what I've learned.

What really impressed me were the people I met. I was very delighted to notice that our trainers are so young spirited and yet very well organized and realistic. We had the chance to meet the head of youth and sport directorate within Council of Europe, a delegate from the ministry of youth and sports from Serbia and many other interesting people who not only had smart words to say, but who could really convinced and challenged me.

Moreover, I was impressed when visiting several NGOs in Strasbourg and saw the way people face really difficult challenges like the unemployment rate of 80% in a certain area in Strasbourg and immigrants' conflicts.

The participants were also very open minded and enthusiastic people. Imagine 27 young people who came from 22 different countries. We were all aged 18-35 and experienced in youth work. Each participant had a unique background to share and it was easy for us to become friends very fast.

Therefore, where friends are, the fun comes. Everybody defeated the fatigue and chose fun instead. In such a friendly environment, the obstacle of different cultures was quickly ignored and we all got along very well. What I really liked was that everybody was so impressed with the Romanian dance "Dansul pinguinului"(the penguin dance) that I danced in my presentation of Romania, so that everyday there were at least 8-9 people to be found dancing it joyfully in our coffee breaks or free time. All in all, this course was a proof that age, experience and even borders shouldn’t come between new friends.

With this new luggage in my life, filled with experience, friends, knowledge and ideas I really encourage young people to get actively involved in the society and to think twice before saying that it's not up to them to change a society. If you change your life a bit, the people you meet, the countries you visit or update the information you have...you've already made a step in shaping the society.

Elevii CNRV coordonati de Prof. Mihaela Tanovici si Prof. Ovidiu Albert, PhD au desfasurat proiectul LEARNING DEMOCRACY-STUDENT SELF-GOVERMENT in parteneriat cu scoala Fekete István- Vörösmarty Mihály Általános Iskola, Gimnázium és Szakközépiskola, AJKA, Ungaria.

In contextul in care elevii sunt din ce in ce mai preocupati de drepturile si responsabilitatile lor in cadrul scolii, considera ca trebuie sa aiba si un cuvant de spus in ceea ce priveste viata scolii. Acest proiect a urmarit sa ofere elevilor posibilitatea de a investiga modalitatile prin care elevii se pot implica in luarea deciziilor legate de scoala si care ar fi modalitatile de pregatire a tinerilor pentru exercitarea drepturile democratice odata cu implinirea varstei de 18 ani.

Iata o scurta descriere a proiectului:

Students are more and more concerned with their rights and duties at school. They expect to have a say in their school life. Therefore the idea of this project is to get an insight in how students can shape their present and future in their living context-the micro society of their schools. The special focus is to show how student self-governments operate and to what extent they can prepare students to exercise their democratic rights after they come of age.
Students are encouraged to describe for the partner schools how the student self-governments work in their schools and what the students’ rights and duties are. They are supposed to compare similarities and differences. In this way, they can judge how far they have advanced in shaping their school life and get new useful ideas on how to step forward, what favorable changes they can propose.
The project aims to make all students in the schools realize how important it is to take part in the work of self-governments and show them that it is only their choice to be more than passive participants.

Intentia noastra este de a va oferi exemple de proiecte reusite desfasurate pe parcursul anului 2009 la care au participat elevi CNRV cu speranta ca vor fi surse de inspiratie pentru cei interesati de astfel de activitati.

Hallowe'en 2009

Postam cateva imagini de la petrecerile de Hallowe'en la rugamintea elevilor si parintilor de aici dar mai ales din strainatate. Dorim sa multumim cu aceasta ocazie Dl. Gheorghe Manea pentru decoratiunile si dulciurile trimise din Irlanda special pentru aceasta ocazie.

Sarbatoarea de Hallowe'en este una din putinele traditii adoptate in toata lumea si reprezinta in prezent un carnaval pentru copii. Acest succes se datoreaza interesului pentru invatarea limbii engleze si familiarizarii elevilor cu elementele de cultura si civilizatie anglo-saxona, a promovarii media si a laturei comerciale aferente. Chiar si in supermarket-urile din Roman am putut cu totii vedea costume, ornamente si dulciuri pentru Hallowe'en.

Pen Pal Program

Dupa desfasurarea cu succes a programului PTPI Language Ambassador in vacanta de vara, profesorul american Mark Johnson a initiat programul Pen Pal intre elevii claselor a IIa, a IVa si a Va de la CNRV si elevi de la Portola School, California. Elevii au trimis si primit deja scrisori in care si-au impartasit impresiile de Hallowe'en si Thanksgiving Day ca si despre sarbatorirea traditionala a Craciunului si Anului Nou in Romania.

Ready, Steady, Go for a healthy life !

Proiect Youth in Action realizat in intregime de grupul PTP Young Generation CNRV in colaborare cu Asociatia PTP Romania-promotor si coordonat de Dl Andrei Corduneanu, youth coordinator.

The Young Generation CNRV members of PTPI’s Roman, Romania Chapter are happy to announce their project proposal has been approved by the National Agency. It is included under Action 1.1 – Youth exchange, of the Youth in Action Programme run by the EU.The project is called ”Ready, steady... go for a healthy life!” It took place in Piatra Neamt, the recently named green city of Romania and consisted in organizing a multilateral youth exchange August 19-28. The main theme of this project is maintaining a healthy lifestyle ina problematic and stressful environment. The activities lasted for nine days, and the participants were 30 young people who represented six non-governmental associations from Romania, Lithuania, Turkey, Malta, Bulgaria and the Czech Republic. The Bulgarian and CzechRepublic youth are also PTPI members, while the others are partners from different European exchanges.The activities mimed a healthy way of living. There were debates related to this topic, and a lot of physical outdoor events. There was also a full day in the countryside, where everybody took part in rural activities and tasted natural and healthy products. The final day was dedicated to putting together a Healthy Life Guide written in seven languages (six of the participants’ languages plus English). The guide presented healthy activities that can be undertaken in the participants’ countries. All of the activities were achieved through non-formal methods of education and involved every team in the organization and implementation stages.

European Youth Forum 2009

Cinci elevi CNRV insotiti de Andreea Dobra, membra PTPI Romania, fosta eleva CNRV, au castigat concursul de selectie si au participat la forumul European EYF care a avut loc la Berlin in perioada 3-9 august 2009. Elevi participanti: Raluca Adascalitei, Alin Latu, Adelina Alexandru, Ana Ghiuzan, Dalia Bratu.

"All Europe is our Stage!" was the topic of PTPI’s third European Youth Forum in Berlin, Germany. The event was a true intercultural experience. During the first two days, participants got to know each other, learned more about one another’s countries and cultures and explored Berlin in the course of an interactive city rally. The city rally encouraged participants to approach people and make “intercultural encounters” in Berlin, which served as a source of inspiration for the development of the theatre play.
Participants also discovered different models and theories of intercultural learning and enhanced their intercultural skills in various interactive workshops. At the international market of possibilities, each group presented its country at a stand and in the course of a performance. The stands displayed materials, posters, typical music, food, clothes and handicrafts from the five different countries. Participants especially enjoyed teaching each other dances and songs from their regions after their respective performances.
The theatre play about "intercultural encounters" was developed during the last three days with the help of the director and theatre pedagogue Martina Brückner from the association KREATIVHAUS. Inspired by three days full of curious experiences, unexpected insights and intense exchanges, participants improvised in small groups and created scenes that represented their intercultural encounters. The best two of those scenes were later presented as introduction to the play on Saturday afternoon. As a next step, participants reflected on stereotypes regarding their countries and created their characters for the play. As theme they chose "all different – all equal". They put themselves into each other’s shoes and impersonated a character, not from their own country, but from one of the other countries or an invented country. The result of their efforts was a theatre play that surprised the audience with reversed stereotypes, mysterious misunderstandings and presented the true wonders of cultural diversity. The actors have proven "All Europe is our Stage." Congratulations to this truly international team!

Centrul National de Testare ACT

Colegiul National "Roman-Voda" este acreditat ca Centru National de Testare ACT - Bacalaureat american. De aproape zece ani , CNRV este singurul centru din tara deschis pentru cele cinci date de testare anuale. Elevi din toata tara inclusiv Bucuresti si Republica Moldova vin la centrul CNRV pentru a sustine Bacalaureatul American fara de care nu este posibila inscrierea la universitatile americane.
Testul dureaza patru ore, cu o pauza de 15 minute si cuprinde cinci sectiuni: doua de limba engleza (English structure si Reading comprehension), una de matematica si una de stiinte plus proba optionala de eseu (writing).
Elevii au posibilitatea sa sustina acest examen atunci cind se simt pregatiti si au la dispozitie cinci date de testare anuale, putind sa repete testul daca nu sunt multumiti de rezultat.

Departamentul de Stat al SUA a lansat concursul de videoclipuri pe teme ecologice, intitulat “Change your climate, change our world”
Persoane cu varste de peste 14 ani, din intreaga lume, care doresc sa contribuie la imbunatatirea conditiilor de mediu, sunt invitate sa participe la acest concurs, prin incarcarea unui videoclip de doua minute la adresa de internet http://connect.state.gov/
Castigatorii, doi din Statele Unite si doi din alte tari ale lumii, vor beneficia de un program de studiu/specializare pe probleme de mediu de doua saptamani, in SUA, costurile fiind in intregime acoperite de guvernul american.
Toate informatiile despre acest concurs le gasiti in flyer-ul atasat. Termenul limita de incarcare a videoclipurilor este 12 ianuarie 2010.
